Alex Spyropoulos is Founder and Medical Director of the Clinical Thrombosis Center at Lovelace Sandia Health Systems. He is a clinical associate professor at the Department of Medicine and an associate professor of pharmacy at the College of Pharmacy, both at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he has developed the clinical thrombosis curriculum for the ambulatory medicine rotation. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, in 1992.
Dr Spyropoulos has been cochair, faculty member, or lecturer at nearly 100 international or national meetings. He has authored more than 20 articles published in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to venous thrombosis. In addition, he has acted as a reviewer for several journals, including Chest and Circulation. He is affiliated with numerous professional associations, including the American Medical Association, the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and the Anticoagulation Forum. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a member of the National Experts’ Consensus Panel for Clinical Excellence in Thrombosis Management.
Over the past 7 years, Dr Spyropoulos has been a principal investigator or Steering Committee member of more than 20 clinical trials, registries, or observational studies investigating various aspects of thrombosis. He is the national principal investigator of a North American registry for patients on chronic oral anticoagulation needing “bridging” therapy. In addition to being a Lifetime Honored Member of Strathmore’s Who’s Who, he received an Achievement Award from the Lovelace Clinic Foundation in 2003. |
