  Management of Bleeding Complications
Bleeding is the most common complication associated with antithrombotic agents. Bleeding severity may range from mild, or “nuisance” bleeding, to serious, life-threatening hemorrhage. In this expert commentary, Ann Wittkowsky, PharmD, discusses the risk factors for bleeding, as well as the different methods for categorizing bleeding used in clinical trials and in practice.

Reducing Door-to-Treatment Times and Meeting New Performance Measures in Acute Coronary Syndromes
In this Expert Commentary, Dr Marc Cohen addresses various strategies for reducing the interval between arrival at the hospital and intracoronary balloon inflation during primary percutaneous coronary intervention, as well as reducing the interval between arrival at the hospital and administration of thrombolytic agents. Dr Cohen also addresses barriers associated with these goals and discusses new performance measures in acute coronary syndromes.

Selecting an Antithrombotic Therapy for the NSTEMI Patient
In this Expert Commentary, Paul Ruest PhD interviews Dr Robert Giugliano regarding the process and choices associated with selecting an antithrombotic therapy for the patient with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS). Dr Giugliano will describe in detail the evidence supporting guideline recommendations and discuss risk stratification, available agents, and the rationale behind selecting these agents for treating this patient population.

 Risk Stratification for Venous Thromboembolism
While there is no universally accepted method for stratifying venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk for medical or surgical patients, Dr Arthur Wheeler discusses various strategies in this Expert Commentary. Dr Wheeler also discusses the barriers to VTE risk stratification and provides unique insight into ways to overcome these barriers. Dr Wheeler summarizes recent landmark deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis clinical trials and the impact they may have on managing patients who must be correctly assessed for risk before the appropriate treatment can be given.

Meeting New Performance Measures and Identifying Barriers to Thromboprophylaxis
In this Expert Commentary, Dr Geno Merli addresses the barriers to the implementation of thromboprophylaxis in medically ill patients and explains the benefits of thromboprophylaxis in reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with venous thromboembolism in these patients.
