Adjunctive Anticoagulation in Fibrinolysis

  Printer-friendly version

Fibrinolysis is the most widely-used reperfusion strategy for patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). As new anticoagulant agents become available, clinicians need to be aware of their benefits and limitations and their recommended place in therapy. In this update to the American Journal of Cardiology, C. Michael Gibson, MS, MD, FACC, of the Cardiovascular Division of the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, provides a comprehensive review of recent trials of anticoagulant agents in STEMI patients undergoing fibrinolysis and discusses current guideline recommendations for their use.
