GOAL OF THE ACTIVITY |
To familiarize participants with antithrombotic therapy considerations – particularly in terms of LMWHs - relevant to obese patients and patients with impaired renal function, as well as to provide clinicians with practical treatment recommendations for effective thrombosis management of these difficult-to-treat patient populations. | |
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the impact of actual body weight (ABW) on dosing and anti-Xa levels
- Describe the impact of renal dysfunction levels of LMWHs on the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of LMWHs
- Recognize the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic differences occurring in patients requiring antithrombotic medications who are obese or have renal impairment
- Utilize updated information as a guide for consideration of dosage adjustments compatible with physiological changes in patients who are obese or have renal impairment
- Identify the differences in monitoring antithrombotic medication effects and the rationale for outpatient antithrombosis management
