INTENDED AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for critical care physicians, cardiologists, nephrologists, general practice and internal medicine physicians and healthcare providers who are involved with special patient populations with cardiac and renal disease who are at higher risk of thromboembolic complications.

GOAL OF THE ACTIVITY
Through completion of this activity, participants will become familiar with practical aspects related to clinical management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and recognize how to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality associated with VTE in patients with cardiac and renal disease.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and list risk factors for VTE
  • List treatment options for prophylaxis of VTE
  • Explain the role of renal insufficiency in determining a treatment regimen
