Samuel Z. Goldhaber

Pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) cause extensive morbidity and mortality; however, because they are difficult to detect, they are often unrecognized. In this book chapter, Dr Goldhaber describes recent advances in our understanding of the causes of PE and reviews current state-of-the-art approaches to detection and diagnosis of these closely related conditions. Building on these new insights, the discussion also includes current best practices, as well as a review of new strategies for the management of both DVT and PE.
