Prophylaxis of VTE in the Obese Patient
Michel M. Murr, MD

Michel M. Murr, MD, reviews the case of a 54-year-old woman with a body mass index of 51 kg/m2 who underwent a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for clinically significant obesity.  In this case-study presentation, Dr Murr discusses recommendations for VTE prophylaxis in patients with clinically significant obesity.

After reviewing this case-study presentation and completing the post-test and evaluation, the participant will

  • Recognize that obesity is an important risk factor for VTE
  • Be able to employ a weight-based treatment algorithm for outpatient prophylaxis of VTE in obese patients
