Thromboprophylaxis of a Medical Patient With Heart Failure and Renal Insufficiency
Geno J. Merli, MD

Geno J. Merli, MD, reviews the case of an obese 70-year-old woman on bed rest in congestive heart failure with renal insufficiency and anemia. In this case-study presentation, Dr Merli discusses the risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE), options for thromboprophylaxis, and the impact of renal insufficiency on selection of drug and dosing.

After following the case-study presentation and completing the posttest and evaluation form, the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize the risk factors for VTE
  • List options for prophylaxis of VTE
  • Explain the role of renal insufficiency in the therapy regimen
