In this expert commentary, Prof Lee Vermeulen discusses the economic benefits of using thromboprophylaxis in acutely ill medical patients. A search of the literature shows that the positive economic consequences of thromboprophylaxis have been demonstrated in a variety of settings.1,2 Prof Vermeulen discusses which end points to take note of when reviewing a pharmacoeconomic study.
