ThrombosisClinic | | | | | | Barriers to ACS-VTE Guidelines In this panel discussion, Dr James Hoekstra, Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Wake Forest University Health Sciences Center, discusses the barriers to implementation of current venous thromboembolism treatment and prophylaxis guideline recommendations with Dr Victor Tapson and Dr Franklin Michota. Dr Hoekstra also discusses barriers to implementation of acute coronary syndromes guidelines with Dr Deepak Bhatt and Dr Robert Giugliano. With the recent release of the updated unstable angina/non–ST-elevation myocardial infarction guideline recommendations in August 2007, a particular emphasis is placed on adherence to guidelines and enhanced patient benefit when guideline recommendations are followed. By bringing together a panel of experts with a variety of backgrounds, this discussion draws on a range of experience and provides the clinician with strategies to address difficult-to-surmount barriers to appropriate guideline adherence.
